Outdoor Morning Photoshoot in Brisbane

When most people think of outdoor family photoshoots, they picture that gorgeous, golden evening light – and for good reason! Sunset sessions during “golden hour” are popular because of their soft, flattering glow. But morning sessions can be beautiful, especially with the right location and a little planning. We recently had a gorgeous morning photoshoot in Brisbane with this lovely family of four. It reminded me why mornings are such a wonderful option for young families.

There are many perks to choosing a morning session, especially when little ones are involved. While it’s true that babies and toddlers don’t always gift us a full night’s sleep (I feel you, parents!), mornings still tend to be when they’re at their happiest. They’re not yet overtired or overstimulated. That means more relaxed cuddles, more curious exploring, and more of those genuine little smiles we all love to capture.
For newborns, mornings can be a sweet spot too – they’re often a bit more settled and less likely to be cluster feeding, making the session flow a lot more smoothly for everyone.

Morning sessions sometimes come with a bit of a challenge in terms of lighting. The sun can be harsher as it rises. However, with the right location, think shady trees, and lots of open shade, morning light can still create the most dreamy, soft, film-like images. There’s a fresh, airy feeling to daytime photos that’s hard to replicate later on.

Another bonus? Morning shoots often mean quieter locations, especially on the weekdays. That gives us plenty of peaceful space to move around, play, and capture all those beautiful in-between moments without the crowds.

During this recent session, we found a gorgeous, tree-lined nature reserve near a lake. This beautiful spot gave us the perfect mix of filtered light and open space. The toddler had a blast running free, mum and dad snuggled their newborn under the trees, and we captured so many relaxed, joy-filled moments that really told the story of their little family.
