When you think about a family photoshoot, you might picture everyone heading to a beautiful location, dressed up and ready to pose. But an in-home family photo session can tell a much more personal story, because so much of your family’s everyday life actually happens at home. Home is where your core memories are made

Your family’s most important memories happen at home. It’s where the kids pile onto your bed in the morning, siblings wrestle and giggle, games get played, snacks get shared and toys somehow end up covering the floor.

And that’s exactly what made this family session so special.

Letting family life unfold

Rather than asking everyone to sit still and smile for the camera, we let this family’s everyday rhythm guide the session.

There were plenty of family cuddles (and a fair few wrestles!) on the bed, lots of goofing around, a Monopoly game that brought everyone together, snack time on the patio and, some serious Lego building.

I gently guided the family when needed, but there was plenty of space for everyone to simply interact, play and be themselves.

You don’t need a picture-perfect home

You don’t need a perfectly styled home or Pinterest-worthy rooms. I love that about in-home family photography!

And you definitely don’t need your children to sit still.

Your home doesn’t need to look perfect. Your kids don’t need to behave perfectly. In fact, the little bits of chaos are often part of what makes the photographs feel like your family.

A family filled with love and a room with decent natural light are all you need for an in-home family photoshoot.

The beauty of the everyday

These are the moments that can be easy to overlook because they happen all the time. But one day, the kids will be bigger. The toys will be packed away. The “family” bed might feel a whole lot less crowded.

That’s why I love documenting this stage of family life as it really is.

Because the most meaningful family photos aren’t taken at a pretty outdoor location. They’re created in the place where you already live, love, laugh and make memories together.
