Best Beaches for Family Photos Near Brisbane

Beach sessions are some of my most requested family photography sessions, and it’s easy to see why! Kids have room to run, play and explore, parents can relax, and the natural beauty of the coastline creates beautiful photos filled with genuine connection. Here are some of the best beaches for family photos near Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

Scarborough

Located on the Redcliffe Peninsula, Scarborough is one of my absolute favourite sunrise locations for family photography.

The rock wall creates a beautiful natural backdrop and is always a hit with adventurous kids who love climbing, balancing and exploring. Along the shoreline you’ll often find tiny shells, interesting textures and little treasures that keep curious children entertained throughout the session.

What I love most about Scarborough is the variety. Within a short walking distance, we can move from sandy beach scenes to rocky coastal landscapes and even some pretty beachside grass areas that add a softer look to your gallery.

Sylvan Beach

If you’re looking for calm, peaceful waters and breathtaking scenery, Sylvan Beach on Bribie Island is a hidden gem.

Located on the bay side of the island, the water is usually incredibly still, making it ideal for families with young children. The gentle shoreline creates a relaxed atmosphere where little ones can safely splash, play and explore.

One of the standout features of Sylvan Beach is the stunning view across the bay. On a clear afternoon, the silhouette of the Glass House Mountains stretches across the horizon, creating a uniquely Queensland backdrop that feels both peaceful and dramatic.

The wide open space, soft light and tranquil setting make this one of the most relaxing locations for a family photography session.

Point Cartwright

For families who love a little adventure, Point Cartwright offers an incredible mix of landscapes.

You’ll find beautiful sandy beaches, rounded rock formations, shallow rock pools and gentle waves that are perfect for exploring. Children love searching through the rock pools, climbing over the smooth rocks and discovering all the little treasures of nature.

The scenery here is particularly spectacular because every direction offers something different. One way you’ll see the coastline stretching into the distance, while another reveals mountain views, city skylines and the iconic lighthouse perched atop the headland.

The variety means your gallery will feel diverse and full of visual interest, all from a single location.

Noosa

Noosa Spit is one of the most beautiful locations in South East Queensland for sunset photos.

The wide sandy beach provides endless space for families to run, play and simply enjoy being together. The waves here are often perfect for splashing and having fun without being overwhelming for children.

There’s also a rock wall that creates beautiful texture and variety in your images, while the golden sunset light transforms the entire beach into a stunning backdrop.
